The Process:

A Reigh Services, Inc. consultant will meet with you to explain options, confirm your specifications, discuss any special requests, and schedule your installation date.

If there is existing edging it will be removed. Disposal of existing edging can be made with Reigh Services, Inc. First, we mark the ground using spray paint and/or string and then remove any existing landscape border.

Next, we use our special bededger/trencher to remove a strip of grass where the new edging/curbing will go. Next, the concrete is mixed. We have a specially designed machine on our trailer, which allows us to mix the concrete on site. The trailer stays on the street or driveway.

The concrete is then brought to our extruding machine using wheelbarrows. For larger commercial applications a concrete truck may be used.

The concrete mixture is placed in the extruding machine and is forced through our molds, which creates the continuous concrete edge or curb.

The curbing is then troweled to a smooth finish. At this time color, stamping, or impressions can be added. Sealer is also applied at this time.

Before hardening, expansion joints are cut into the concrete.

Other information regarding the process:

Any sprinkler heads, cable lines, phone lines, or any other items that may be buried close to the surface needs to be marked. Please notify us if property lines will be a factor.

Concrete must cure for a minimum of 24 hours before it can walked or stepped on. Concrete is considered cured after 28 days. All concrete will appear dark at first but will lighten as curbing continues to cure. Watering the ground around the edging for the first 3 days will help the curing process and reduce cracking.

Styles & Colors : The Possibilities are Endless, Literally!:

We offer a variety of styles & colors for your landscaping needs. You have the opportunity to combine any shape, color scheme, stamp, or impression pattern to create your own unique look.

Stamped:

We offer 2 and 3 color stamping. Our 2 color stamped edging adds texture and/or patterns to the face of single color edging. The 3 color stamped edging is the most brilliant of our of our stamping options. A color concrete coating is poured over natural gray edging. A texture and pattern are then applied to the face of the curb and followed by a coat of protective sealer.

This process results in an attractive and durable edging.

Impression:

Our impression edging recreates the look of mortared brick, tile, or slate. Lines are pressed into a single color edging and given the appearance of natural grout.

Lighted:

Our lighting kit allows you to extend the visual beauty of your landscape borders into the night. The low voltage lights are contained in a very strong but small tube which is embedded into the surface of the concrete.

Walkways:

We can create a 24-inch walkway for you in hours not days, depending on the length of the walkway. It is a process that does not require form boards.

Colors:

Reigh Servies, Inc. recommends using a color that will accent your landscaping rather than trying to match the color of your home.

Questions & Answers:

Is this landscape curbing a new product?

We realize extruded concrete curbing is a new concept to many people in Pennsylvania. However, extruded concrete has been around in excess of 20 years, with a proven tract record at preventing sod from entering your flower beds. Best of all, you do not have weeds growing in-between this edging since it is all one continuous curb.

Are you limited to a design layout, such as with Timbers?

Concrete curbing is ideal for the Pennsylvania hills and mountains. A small concrete extruding machine is very easily maneuvered, thereby providing the design flexibility needed for your specific lawn type. It curves, circles, or extrudes straight lines to allow you any design your heart desires.

How effective is this Continuous Concrete Edging and Curbing in keeping out grass?

Since continuous concrete curbing is seamless, there are no gaps for weeds or grass to grow between. The curb is 6" wide by 4" high on the back side that slopes down to 2" on the front. The dimensions of the curb insures stability and is impossible for grass/weeds to penetrate. Today homeowners have experimented with wood timbers, metal or plastic edging, and brick. Your costs and effort at a bordering eventually goes down the drain due to rot, rust, warping, or just plain out does not stay in place. Worst yet, you are still fighting the grass overflow and weeds.

Our Concrete Edge is unsurpassed by all other methods of edging and is there to stay! Best of all, we give you a "one year guarantee" because we know you will not find an edging that is more beautiful and effective than our decorative curb.

Does this process damage my lawn or flowerbeds?

Absolutely not. In fact, we recommend you have your sod, flowerbeds and sprinkler system completed prior to our arrival. It is easier to accomplish that flow you are searching for. Once the design has been determined, we use a special power bededger/trencher that removes the top layer grass that is approximately is 8" wide. The trenching provides a flat, below ground level surface into which the curb will be extruded.

Sounds good, but can anyone truly afford this?

If you can afford other means of edging, you can definitely afford this. Our prices are very compatible with materials and labor of other edging products. The only difference is ours is beautiful, warranted and there to stay.

What is the continuous concrete edging and curbing made from?

Reigh Services Continuous Concrete Edging & Curbing products are made from concrete. The concrete mixture consists of sand, cement, nylon fiber reinforcement (for added tinsel strength), water and concrete coloring.

Does the weather effect when Continuous Concrete
Edging and Curbing can be installed?

Yes. Temperature and humidity are the biggest factors. It isn't uncommon to add chemicals to the mixture to help offset less-than-ideal conditions. Our season varies between March and November.

How strong is Continuous Concrete Edging and Curbing borders?

When fully cured, Continuous Concrete Edging and Curbing landscape borders are rated at 4,000 psi (pounds per square inch). Total curing time varies from 14 to 30 days, depending on weather conditions. Reigh Services Edging and Curbing borders are constructed to withstand routine mowing equipment, including commercial grade riding mowers and trimmers. We also offer rebar for reinforcement at an additional cost. This option is for the non-believers and high automotive traffic areas.

Do you offer a warranty on your landscape border and garden walkways?

Yes. All of our borders and walkways come with a full one-year limited warranty. A written and signed warranty is given to each customer at the end of the installation.

Reigh Services, Inc. does not manufacture the color and therefore cannot warrant it. Variations in color from the color chart may occur.

What if a piece of my border cracks or breaks?

In the unlikely event this occurs, our highly skilled team can remove the cracked piece of border and replace it. During the initial warranty period, there is no charge for this service. Refer to warranty for product guidelines.

Do you offer a maintenance program for your landscape border?

Yes. We recommend having your landscape border and garden walkways sealed with a specific sealer 6 months after the installation and then annually. The sealer will provide a unique layer that protects the concrete and helps maintain color integrity and shine. Applying sealer each year will help ensure your landscape border or walkway will look great for years to come. We can provide this service for you or you can purchase a sealer at your local hardware store and apply it with a garden sprayer. If you want to use the sprayer again, be sure to buy the proper cleaner listed on the sealer instructions for sprayer clean up.

Why is sealer important?

Calcium carbonate deposits may form on the surface of the edging due to a natural reaction between carbon dioxide and the free lime in the cement, often referred to as efflorescence. As a result color edging may appear faded. While efflorescence can be cleaned using a solution of 1-part muriatic acid to 5-parts water, we feel it is better to prevent the initial buildup. Curing sealer will appear glossy at first but will result in a matte finish. To obtain a shiny appearance, a high gloss sealer, containing at least 25% solids can be applied after the 28-day curing process.

How long does it take to install the landscape border?

Depending on the contour, form, and linear foot, most residential and commercial jobs can be completed in one 8 hour day. Remember, that our cost includes labor and installation. You pay only for the linear foot which varies on the pattern, color, stamping, and texture of choice.
